David Graeber, antropoloog en anarchist, schreef er het opzienbarende boek \u2018Debt: the first 5.000 Years\u2019 over. Zijn centrale stelling: hoe virtueler de schuld, hoe eenvoudiger kwijtschelding wordt. Filosoof en schrijver Rob Wijnberg, die zelf worstelt met de vraag of hij zich wel in de hypotheekschulden moet steken, neemt deze gedachten mee naar Noreena Hertz. Deze Britse econome pleit al sinds 2000 voor een einde aan wat ze noemt \u2018the debt trap\u2019.
